The short version

ShamirVault splits a secret into parts and puts them back together. It runs on your device, we never see what you split, and we cannot recover anything for you. That last point is not a disclaimer buried in legal text — it is how the product works, and the rest of this page follows from it. Using the app or this website means you accept these terms.

We cannot recover your secret. Nobody can.

There is no “forgot my password” here, and there never will be. We hold no copy of your secret, no copy of your parts and no copy of your passphrase. If you lose enough parts to fall below your threshold, or forget the passphrase that protects them, what you stored is gone permanently — by us, by you, by a court order, by anyone.

This is the whole point of the design, and it is also the whole risk. Before you rely on ShamirVault for something that matters, test the round trip: split it, then rebuild it from the parts, then do it again in six months. The app includes reminders for exactly this.

The inheritance kit is not a will

ShamirVault helps you hand on things a will cannot hold: seed phrases, passwords, documents, recordings. It is a way to store and distribute access, not a legal instrument. It does not create, replace, amend or execute a will, a trust or any other testamentary document, and it does not make anyone your legal heir.

Nothing in the app, the printed kit or this website is legal, tax or financial advice. Inheritance law differs in every country and changes over time. If what you are protecting matters, speak to a notary or a lawyer where you live — and use ShamirVault alongside that, not instead of it.

What you may do with the app

You get a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use ShamirVault, for yourself or inside your organisation. You may not resell it, pass it off as your own, or try to break the protections that keep other people's accounts separate from yours. The underlying scheme — Shamir's Secret Sharing — is public mathematics and belongs to nobody; the app, its name and its design are ours.

The free plan, and the ads in it

Splitting and rebuilding are free, unlimited, and always will be. They never expire, never require an account and never require a connection. The free plan is paid for with ads, which we show under one hard rule: never on a screen that displays a secret, a part or your vault. That rule is enforced in the code, not in a policy.

The annual plan

The plan costs €4.99 per year and removes ads, unlocks the full inheritance kit and enables encrypted cloud backup. It is billed through the App Store or Google Play, under their terms, and renews automatically until you cancel.

  • Cancelling is done in your store account, not here — we have no way to do it for you. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, or that year is charged.
  • Cancelling is not losing access. You keep the plan until the period you paid for runs out.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own rules. We do not process payments and cannot issue refunds ourselves.
  • If the plan lapses, nothing of yours is deleted or locked. You can still open, read, download and delete everything you stored. What stops is uploading new files and generating new kits.
  • The price can change, with notice before a renewal. A change never applies to a period already paid.

Cloud backup, and its limits

Backup is optional, off by default, and stores the encrypted file — without your key it is noise, to us as much as to anyone else. Parts are never uploaded: the app refuses to. We keep the lock; you hand out the keys.

  • Up to 1 GiB and 20 files per account, 32 MiB per file. Stored in Europe.
  • You can delete anything at any time, with or without an active plan.
  • It is a convenience, not a guarantee. Treat it as a second copy, never the only one. The copy that survives everything is the one on paper.
  • We may remove content that is clearly illegal, or an account being used to abuse the service — automated bulk downloading, for instance. Since we cannot read what you store, this can only ever be based on behaviour, never on content.

Fair use

Do not use ShamirVault to break the law, to store material that is illegal to possess, or to attack the service — automated scraping, load testing we did not agree to, or attempts to get around account limits. We can suspend an account that does, and in serious cases we will.

No warranty

ShamirVault is provided “as is”. We make no promise that it is free of defects, that it will always be available, or that it fits any particular purpose of yours. The cryptography it uses is standard and public — AES-256, PBKDF2, Shamir over GF(256) — and the format is documented so that your parts can be rebuilt without us, with the standalone script we publish. That is the strongest guarantee we can honestly offer: not that we will always be here, but that you do not need us to be.

Limits of our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost secrets, lost funds, lost data or lost opportunity arising from your use of ShamirVault — including a secret that cannot be rebuilt because parts were lost, a passphrase forgotten, or a kit never printed. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is capped at what you paid us in the previous twelve months. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything the law does not permit us to limit — and if you are a consumer in the EU, your statutory rights stand untouched.

Ending things

You can stop using ShamirVault whenever you like: delete the app, and what is on your device goes with it. To remove an anonymous subscription account and anything backed up, use the delete option in the app. We may end or suspend service for a serious breach of these terms, or if we discontinue the product — and in that case we will give notice with enough time to download what you have stored.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The revision date at the top always says when. Material changes get announced in the app before they take effect; continuing to use ShamirVault after that means you accept them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings there.
